- If a wire or bracket is irritating your mouth, try covering it with orthodontic wax to relieve the
discomfort.
- If you discover a loose bracket or broken archwire, please call the office. We will evaulate if you can
leave it until your next appointment or if you need to reschedule sooner.
- If you break or lose a retainer or an appliance, please call the office as soon as possible to schedule
an appointment to fabricate a replacement to prevent any unfavorable shifting of your teeth.
- Sore spots can develop on your cheeks or gums right after you get your braces. This is normal. Try
placing wax on the area that is irritating you and/or applying an over-the-counter numbing product such as
Orabase Soothe and Seal and/or Peroxyl rinse which can be found at your
local drugstore (warm salt water can be substituted).
- If your removable appliance creates a sore spot in your mouth, you can also use an over-the-counter
numbing product and/or Peroxyl rinse that can be found at your local drugstore (warm salt water can be substituted).
- Occasionally after new wire placements or adjustments, the wire can stick out a little bit and irritate
your cheek. If this happens, you can take a pair of fingermail clippers and clip off the part of the wire
that is sticking out or apply bracket wax to the area.
- Teeth are hurting! If you just had your braces tightened, a little soreness can be expected. By exercising the teeth with a clear bite wafer provided by the office you can reduce soreness. You may also try an over-the-counter pain reliever or what you would normally take for pain relief. If you are under the age of eighteen, check with a parent before taking any medication.
